Spring has brought many gifts to St. John’s such as our EYC gathering in person for fellowship and worship outdoors, warmer and brighter evenings to serve food at our Community Meals Program on Monday and Wednesday nights, thriving new walking groups within our parish, time together working in our native garden and the new Northeast Community Garden and Gathering Place and even more parishioners enjoying a walk or lunch on our beautiful grounds. Thank God for Spring!!!
My family’s most exciting gift this Spring has been a robin’s construction of a nest for her 3 eggs in the archway of our front porch. If you have ever had the good fortune of watching this process up close, you know nests are sacred spaces that require days of hard work to construct, long hours of patient waiting and weeks of caretaking, feeding, and teaching until…. independence, the cycle begins again! What we observe in nature during Spring is very much reflected in the life of our Church this season. As we prepare to re-imagine many of our ministries and welcome our growing parish back to Church we must prepare, strategize and build systems to support this flourishing. The best way you can help in this effort is to join one of the Ministry Architects listening sessions this coming week. Please be sure to check the schedule and register for these online sessions.
Spring is also the time to watch our loved ones fly from the nest to new adventures. We will celebrate our graduating Seniors on June 27 and send them to college, work and independence with our prayers and love. We will celebrate the work of our gifted Curate Mawethu as his one year cycle at St. John’s comes to a close and he flies off to St. Titus in Durham leaving space in the nest for our new Curate Rev. Amanda. In a challenging year that kept us physically separated, Mawethu was quick to love us, worked hard to find ways to connect us to God, Scripture, our neighbors and each other. Join us in celebrating his ministry at St. John’s on May 30 after the 9am service on Zoom Coffee Hour. This Spring, join me in the work required to nurture our parish in this season of growth and in celebrating all the beautiful gifts of the ministries of St. John’s.
