As we read Henri Nouwen’s short book Walk with Jesus: The Stations of the Cross during Lent, we’ll gather by Zoom each Wednesday to reflect together on Nouwen’s insights about walking with Jesus, and our own. We’ll focus on the Stations that are derived from the gospel accounts of Jesus’ passion listed below, and we’ll conclude each evening with Compline (night prayers).
You may purchase Nouwen’s book anywhere you prefer. There are a few copies available at church. Please contact Joy Shillingsburg if you want to purchase one. You also may wish to reflect on the Stations of the Cross using some of the suggested Extension Activities that are especially good for older children, youth, and their families.
REGISTER HERE for the Wednesday evening Holy Conversations.
Station I: Jesus is condemned to death & Station II: Jesus carries his cross
Station V: Simon helps Jesus carry his cross
Station VIII: Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem
Station X: Jesus is stripped of his garments
Station XI: Jesus is nailed to the cross & Station XII: Jesus dies on the cross

All are welcome to use the large outdoor labyrinth at St. John’s Episcopal Church (a circular meandering path meant for walking and reflection that leads you to a center point and guides you back out to an exit point) to honor and remember all who have been lost to COVID this year. Family and friends are invited to submit the names of loved ones lost to COVID, which will be displayed on yellow hearts in the labyrinth space. We hope that all ages will take time to visit this memorial, walk the labyrinth and remember those who have been lost in the pandemic.
