St. John’s Christian Formation ministry strives to offer resources for individuals and groups within our parish to foster a deeper, more transformative life with God. Groups and gatherings listed here are offered for older teens and adults.

Fellowship groups gather for the simple pleasure of being part of a caring community and enjoying a hobby or interest together.

Adult Formation

(Wednesday adult formation series)

A series of short (3-6 week) topical studies or Bible studies offered most Wednesday evenings in St. John’s Parish Hall. We begin at 6 pm and end with a short Compline service (night prayers) at 8:30 pm.

Book Club

All are welcome to read the book of the month and join in monthly discussion group as you are able and available. This group meets the first Monday of every month at 6:30 pm in the Parish Hall. Please contact Barbara Kwiatek for information on how to join the group.

Fiber Arts Group

All fiber arts enthusiasts are welcome — knitters, crocheters, quilters, embroiderers, etc. The group meets monthly to enjoy community as they work on their independent projects, and often take on outreach and service projects to do together.

Hiking Group

St. John’s Hikers gather one Saturday a month (weather permitting) for a local hike, often several miles’ duration. They enjoy the beauty of God’s Creation together, and make friends along the way!

Men’s Group

St. John’s Men’s Group meets for breakfast monthly to build community among the men in the parish and learn from each other about everything from restoring old cars or trains, to the rise of Christian Nationalism in the US, to accompanying a child when they “come out” as LGBTQI+ or non-binary. All who identify as male are welcome to join.

Pickleball Group

This group of St. John’s parishioners and friends who sporadically meet for pick-up pickleball games.

SAGEs

(Senior Adults Growing and Exploring)

Seniors 60+ gather monthly on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 11:45 am. We enjoy a potluck lunch, with an educational or entertaining presentation to follow. The group takes occasional outings as well.

Sophia Sisters

“Sophia” (Greek for “wisdom” used often in the Bible) represents the feminine aspect of God’s wisdom. The Sophia Sisters group meets the 2nd Saturday of each month (Sept – June) at 10 AM in the Parish Hall to discuss a chosen book for the year that inspires us to continue seeking wisdom. Participants take turns (in pairs) co-presenting a chapter of the book and prompting small group discussions. This format helps us discern and share individual perceptions of the reading. All who identify as women are welcome to join.

Sophia Sisters also offers an annual weekend Retreat for Women to launch their deeper dive into the book/topic of the year and build community among the women of St. John’s.

Soloists

(Fellowship Gathering of Single, Widowed or Divorced Women)

All women navigating life “solo” are encouraged to join in this monthly discussion and fellowship group.

Soulful Suppers

Twice per year, small groups of 7-10 people are formed and then meet monthly for several months in various homes or go out together for dinner or lunch. This is a fun and easy way to meet other parishioners and build new friendships.
