Bishops’ Ball 2021
Saturday, February 13, 2021 from 1:00pm to 3:30pm
Bishops’ Ball has been and remains to be our anchor youth event. This year due to the pandemic we are unable to gather in person, but we plan to offer a virtual event to bring youth and the adults who walk alongside of them together. The virtual event will be online via zoom on Saturday, February 13 from 1:00 to 3:30 pm.

Our theme is Do Everything in Love from 1 Corinthians 16:14. Both our Diocesan Bishop, Samuel Rodman, and our Bishop Suffragen, Bishop Anne Hodges-Copple, will join us. There will be breakout offerings for short workshops, information about 1,000 Days of Love, and some surprises in the mail. Bishops’ Ball is open to youth in 6th to 12th grade. Register Here

Who We Are?

Our middle and high school students faithfully attend morning worship together, online faith formation discussions, and work together to live out their faith by serving the Wake Forest community. As we navigate our world, we walk in love together to deepen our faith, serve others, and build meaningful relationships with each other.

In normal times, we love spending time with other members of our parish, from entertaining younger kids at parish picnics, to hearing the faith stories of older members and bringing homemade muffins to parish friends who are ill. St. John’s youth are also very active in our Episcopal Diocese of NC Youth Programs including Bishop’s Ball (retreat and dance event), Middle and High School retreats, and HUGS Camp for differently-abled summer campers.

What We Do?

Normally (when not in the middle of a global pandemic) the EYC (Episcopal Youth Community) gathers after grabbing a snack or lunch during the parish Coffee Hour after 10:00 am Sunday worship. Our youth come together regularly for discussions centered on Christian formation, to engage in a service project, and/or join in structured fellowship time. Once a month, a team of dedicated teachers prepared by our Youth Director split our middle- and high-school groups to lead age-specific conversations on faith, spirituality, relationships, personal life decisions, and social justice. Our EYC meetings provide the space for students to explore together how our faith and spirituality relate to every other aspect of their lives, and how it shapes us as citizens of the world.

*During the COVID-19 pandemic we are offering very limited in-person gatherings, but  we continue to follow these guiding principles as we gather online on Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings and outdoors.

When do we meet?

Typically, EYC (Episcopal Youth Community) meets on most 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays from 11:00 am-12:30 pm in the EYC Lounge located on the lower level of St. John’s Education Building.

However, following Diocese and CDC guidelines to keep our youth and families safe, we currently are meeting in-person on a limited basis during the COVID-19 pandemic, finding opportunities outdoors to serve our community, gathering by Zoom for weekly worship (see calendar), discussion, and bi-weekly Zoom EYC meetings for fellowship and formation.
