2025 is upon us and the preschool is already buzzing with activity. In addition to getting the children back into the swing of things in the classrooms, we are beginning the process of registering students for the upcoming school year. Looking that far ahead almost feels like pressing fast forward on the current school year. In a way, it feels like a slingshot launching us passed the winter and spring fun and exploration and into May. But instead, we are embracing the beginning of 2025 and firmly planted in the here and now to guide our preschoolers as they continue to play, learn, and grow with their teachers and friends.
That growth was clearly on display at the Christmas program the preschool put on for our families back in December. The children showcased their talents to a packed Sanctuary, singing Christmas carols and jingling bells. I was so impressed by the children who weren’t even phased by the large audience in front of which they were performing. Even if some were a little intimidated at first, a quick reassurance from teachers and family encouraged them to stand up and sing their little hearts out. It was really a joy to watch!
After the performance, the children were treated to a special visit from Santa and had the opportunity to take pictures with him while also enjoying some holiday cookies. As I am still new in this director role, it was very welcoming to meet more siblings and grandparents who came to cheer on their preschooler. All in all, it was a great way to celebrate and usher in the Holidays.
As a parent, I’ve always been told that the days are long, but the years are short. This advice reminds me to slow down and enjoy the small moments, even when daily challenges can seem to last forever. Before we know it, I’ll be sharing news about Mother’s Day and our preschool Moving Up Ceremony. But until then, we’ll slow down to welcome each small moment and memory during the winter. And if we’re lucky enough, maybe those memories just might include some snow.
