2023 Awesome Arts Adventures Summer Camp
I have a wonderful life. It’s full of the Spirit, family, friends, and many talented and dedicated people. The 2023 Awesome Arts Adventures Summer Camp is just one example. What a blessing this week has been to be able to share time with the youth of the congregation and the Wake Forest community and watch them grow as they tackled new ideas and skills.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not cooperate with us and except for Monday, camp was held inside. Fortunately, we have the facilities to make this work and camp was held without a hitch. For 2 days I was an assistant with the 6 – 8-year-olds and I was really delighted to see and hear their progress with the ukulele and djembe and see their artwork. It was also fun to learn (and sing) some new songs with the campers. I will look forward to helping out next year!
A great big thank you to everyone that helped make the 2023 Awesome Arts Adventures Summer Camp successful and fun, especially Miss Marcia, Mr. Cliff, Miss Suzi, Miss Durbin, all of the volunteers and donors, and especially St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Here are some interesting camp facts:
- There were 38 registered campers ranging in age from 6 – 16.
- There were more than 20 camp assistants/instructors.
- Along with campers from St. John’s and the Wake Forest Community, campers from Senegal and the Ukraine also attended.
Each day Campers:
- Created visual arts.
- Learned foundational music skills and theory through playing the ukulele.
- Refined their innate rhythmic skills through djembe drumming and drum/percussion circles.
- Joined in lifting their voices/instruments in community with assistants and instructors through Opening and Closing Gathering times.
