St. John’s Hiking Group
St. John’s hikers had a great hike in May, welcoming several first-timers who were interested in exploring the unique BW Wells site. The temperature was perfect and the site always engaging with its unusual history, geology, and botanical offerings. Here’s our group, flanking the enormous stump of an old oak once gracing the Rockcliff Farm homestead of Bertram and Maude Wells. CLICK HERE to find out about our June hiking schedule!
For June, our “hike” will actually be a “walk” as we join other residents for Wake Forest’s Annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 17. While sponsored observances begin on Friday evening, continuing through Saturday evening (see text below), we as a group will participate only in the 45-minute Freedom Walk starting 11 a.m. at the Dubois Center, 416 N. Taylor Street. Afterwards, feel free to hang around or head elsewhere. Unfortunately, I will not be able to carpool from the church that morning. However, if anyone is interested in attending and wants to carpool to the 11 a.m. walk, let me know, and I’ll try to connect you. Otherwise, no prior notification needed if you plan to attend; just come if you can to explore another historic local area. Lots going on throughout the whole weekend! We will restart our “wooded” hikes on soft trails in the fall, Saturday, Sept. 16.
Hope to see you soon. Have a great summer and be sure to keep hiking: it’s good for the body, mind and soul!
Helen
