INFORMATION ON OUR UPCOMING HIKE!
Hello St. John’s hikers,
Time is passing so quickly! January’s chilly but invigorating hike on the Honeycutt Trail is now in the past, as we look forward to another local hike on Saturday, Feb. We will be back on the Mountains to the Sea Trail for a 3 to 3.5 mile hike (in and out), beginning at the MST trailhead on Possum Track Road where it dead ends at Falls Lake, 13622 Possum Track Rd, Raleigh, NC 27614, about 10 miles from St. John’s.
The most direct route from Wake Forest: go south on Falls of Neuse, turn right on Raven Ridge, turn right on Hardee Road, then turn right on Possum Track Rd., and then go until it dead ends. Roadside parking is available for a few cars; however, since the road dead ends, intersecting with a very short Red Fox Road that serves three or four houses, parking is usually not a problem.
Carpoolers meet at the church at 8:30; self-drivers meet at the trailhead around 8:45, give or take a few minutes. As always, wear good walking shoes, wear layered clothing if it’s cold, bring water and also hiking poles or walking sticks to navigate the sometimes slippery, rocky, or rooty trails. If you plan to join the group that morning, please contact Helen Holt at hwholt09@gmail.com or at 919-522-7917. Pictured below, from left, are hardy January hikers Helen Holt, Lois Sauer, Beth Lyon, Sue Griffin and Dave Arner. Until then, “Just Get Outdoors” and enjoy God’s wondrous gift of Creation!
