For all those who are finding a new home at St. John’s and/or the Episcopal Church — and for those who have long made their home here, but would like to understand their faith more deeply — St. John’s will be offering weekly Catechesis on the Sundays in Lent. This exploration of the fundamentals of our faith is recommended for families, individuals, and sponsors preparing for Baptism or Confirmation,** but is also open to anyone who wants to learn more about who we are, what we believe, and what we should do about it.
Using the Catechism/Outline of Faith in the BCP, as well as the highly-acclaimed book Walk in Love: Episcopal Beliefs and Practices, we’ll explore topics such as baptism and salvation, the Eucharist, prayer, and the church’s mission.
[** Confirmation (along with Reception and the Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows) is a rite of public affirmation of mature faith, and constitutes a kind of official welcome, via the bishop, into full membership in the Episcopal Church. This is for youth baptized as young children and for newcomers from other traditions.]
