Favorites…colors, foods, songs, places, people…consider Biblical figures…who comes to mind? Moses, John, Abraham, Ruth, Josiah? Joe who???
With historical accounts in two separate Old Testament books—II Kings 22-23 and II Chronicles 34-35—the story of Josiah, a Judean king who reigned for 31 years—may not be a prominent name on “favorites” lists.
Though a 3+ decade reign of any land might be considered impressive amidst political and historical upheaval, what makes Josiah a unique ruler in history is the fact that as king, he began his reign at the age of 8! Imagine what you might do/have done as a leader of the people at that stage of your life?
This summer, St. John’s 2024 Arts Camp will tell the tale of Josiah in a vibrant way—through acting, singing, dancing, costuming, props—in a fully staged production “GOOD KINGS COME IN small PACKAGES,” written by Linda Rebuck, and Bonnie & David Huntsinger. The camp, beginning Monday, July 22nd, will meet daily from 4 to 7 p.m., allowing those already in school the opportunity to participate. A public performance will be held on Saturday, July 27th at 2 p.m.
God welcomes everyone to active engagement in ministry; that is ALL AGE—“…church for everyone, welcoming to all ages, abilities, learning preferences, backgrounds…” (Messy Church/BRF Fellowship, 2024). This ALL AGE/Intergenerational concept is exactly what the 2024 Arts Camp will offer as we learn about Josiah and God’s lessons of Spiritual renewal through the Word, worship, and prayer.
Open to all members of St. John’s, the Wake Forest community, and all beyond our city, campers may register from age 6 through High School. There are multiple acting/speaking/singing roles for ALL ages; there are also crowd/chorus/”silent” acting roles for ALL ages. Camp Assistants are needed—individuals to help our campers get to/from break times/restrooms/etc. Good at finding unusual objects/props? We are looking for individuals that can help in this area—for example, we will require MUCH “bling” for our Rap Song! Intrigued???
Prayerfully consider enrolling your family member(s) for this unique Bible-based theatre ministry. Go to www.stjohnswf.org and click the link to register. Questions? Email Karole at KaroleB@stjohnswf.org.
The 2024 Arts Camp will be an ALL AGE week to learn, to grow in faith, and to give thanks!
Soli Deo Gloria.
