A strummin’ summer comin’ your way…
In Fall 2021, multiple conversations were taking place about the direction ministries might be headed as St. John’s envisions the future. One idea that came from my dialogue with members of the Strategic Design Team, was a three-year goal for the creation of a school of the arts that will serve both St. John’s parishioners and members of the wider community. Now that it’s officially Spring 2022, why wait three years? Let’s make it happen now!
This summer, the foundation for St. John’s School of the Arts will launch with — UKULELE ADVENTURES 2022 — a week long music/arts camp scheduled for June 20th through the 24th. Working with Joy Shillingsburg, Director of Outreach Ministry, our plan is to get a jumpstart on this inaugural summer camp by introducing music weekly to the greater Wake Forest community at Hope House and Olive Branch Baptist Church. How can you support this exciting new ministry?
As we build the resources for this camp and an arts school, on the wish list would be monies to fund the purchase of ten (10) student ukuleles. Campers/and future arts school students could use these instruments without any cost restrictions to families. All instruments would be maintained and stored at the church.
The cost? A terrific student ukulele kit runs $55 (this includes a sturdy instrument and a case); additionally, we will need to purchase several tuners at a cost of $14 each. The curriculum has already been secured at no cost so…once we get these instruments on hand, we are ready to strum and have some fun learning music, building relationships and serving through a unique ministry!
