CROP Walk for Hunger
Sept. 24th @ 11AM here at St. John’s!
For 44 remarkable years, St. John’s has dedicated the last Sunday in September to a cause close to our hearts – Church World Service, known today as CROP WALK. This annual event reflects the core values of our community and our commitment to making a positive impact in the world.
Church World Service, founded in 1946 after World War II, embodies our shared faith and values. In 1964, CROP WALK was born with a profound mission: to acknowledge the millions who journey miles in search of clean water and food. It’s our way of standing in solidarity with the countless refugees on the move, reminding us that “we walk because they walk.”
CROP Sunday holds a special place in our hearts. It’s a moment to remind ourselves that there’s abundance in the world for everyone. We use this day to remember the poor and the needy globally and right here in Wake Forest. This year, 25% of the proceeds will benefit local organizations like Hope House, Tri-Area Ministries, and the Community Table. Together, we can make a difference!
We invite you to join us in a unifying walk of compassion on Sunday, September 24 at 11AM. Children and our choir, accompanied by music and instruments, will lead us on this meaningful journey. We’ll start by circling the columbarium and continue around the perimeter of our parking lots. Your presence will make this event even more impactful.
As we prepare for CROP Sunday, let’s reflect on these words from Jesus: “Truly, I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do to me.” In the Bible, there are 2003 verses related to the poor, emphasizing the profound importance of our actions in support of those in need.
