The Method of Centering Prayer
Beginning each Tuesday at 2:30 PM in the Preschool Multipurpose Room starting on February 20 and continuing throughout Lent, we will offer classes on how to practice Centering Prayer. These classes will be led by parishioner Kathryn Kelley.
Centering Prayer provides an atmosphere where we can center our attention on God’s presence within. It allows us to set aside time to be with God in a group setting, engaging in the prayer of the heart. By sitting relaxed and quiet in faith, we express love to God who dwells in the center of our being. Centering Prayer is not intended to replace other forms of prayer but rather encourages a prayer with God through the powerful language of silence. Centering Prayer fosters a relationship with God and Christian community.
No need to sign up. We hope you can join us on this journey.
Kathryn Kelley’s Bio:
I am an Episcopalian with a strong commitment to Centering Prayer. Being a St. John’s member is uplifting. It is nice to have moved from Charlotte to Wake Forest to be near family, in Raleigh. Following a Centering Prayer workshop in Charlotte, led by Rev. Tom Ward,St. Mary’s Sewanee TN, I began Centering Prayer. Along with other Christ Church members, we started a Centering Prayer group in 2009. Facilitating and participating in Centering Prayer is spiritually enlightening. I do individual Centering Prayer daily and group Centering Prayer weekly. The fruits of the practice bring fruits of the spirit to carry with me, in my day-to-day life. Attending retreats in NC and St. Mary’s Sewanee and online renews my spiritual journey. I look forward to Centering Prayer with St. John’s community. Just being there, gathering quietly in God’s presence. Prayers, Kathryn ✝️
